Corporate Finance - Assignment 03 Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Corporate Finance - 03 - Assignment Example The examination will be directed for five days from 23rd December 2014 to 27th December 2014. The hardware is required in January 2015. The evaluated transportation cost is AED 5 million. The organization expects to spend the remaining AED 50 million towards the hardware buy. The table 3 underneath shows the expense of the gear in AED dependent on the trade rates perceptions introduced in table 1 above. The gear is cited to cost â⠬ 1,090,000. From the table 3 over, the organization will burn through (1,090,000/0.223548) = AED 4,875,910 to buy the gear on the primary day. â⠬1,090,000 is the cost cited in Euros. So as to decide the expense of buying the gear on day 1, the statement cost is separated by the conversion scale (AED/à £) on that day. Recover that AED 50 million was designated for the consumption. In this manner, by settling on the choice to buy the hardware, the organization will spare (50,000,000 â⬠4,875,910) = AED 45,124,090 for the explanation that the gear will be worth not exactly the arranged cost (XE Live Exchange Rates, 2014). Dictionaries to the Rescue On the Importance of Words in a Post-Truth Era
Dictionaries to the Rescue On the Importance of Words in a Post-Truth Era In his 1946 essay, Politics and the English Language, George Orwell discusses the consequences and causes of sloppy language. Its a vicious cycle: â[Language] becomes ugly and inaccurate because our thoughts are foolish, but the slovenliness of our language makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts.â In this âpost-truthâ age of âalternative factsâ, when we canât seem to agree on the most basic principles, Orwellâs essay is more relevant than ever. We are hungry for accurate language, desperate to find some way to at least agree on what words mean, even if we canât agree on anything else. Dictionaries, the stuffy authorities of the grade school classroom, are stepping up into the gap. As Katherine Rosman wrote in a recent New York Times article, dictionaries are making a comeback. People are returning to them as a touch-stone of authoritative knowledge. A dictionary is no longer simply a book that is too big to fit into your purse; itâs an active presence in political discourse, entering the conversation in real-time on social media. Merriam-Webster (@MerriamWebster) and Dictionary.com (@Dictionarycom) are not only defining words, but also providing biting political commentary. Rosman reports that, according to the head of Dictionary.comâs marketing department, âthe intent is not to be political or partisanâ, but rather to âdemonstrate the relevance and usefulness of an expanded vocabularyâ. This may be true, but hereâs the thing. Language, and our use of it, is inherently political. In an atmosphere of confusing rhetoric and blatant falsehoods, the very act of defining a word is political. Rooting out bad habits in language is essential in the fight against oppression. As Orwell says, âIf one gets rid of these habits one can think more clearly, and to think clearly is a necessary first step toward political regeneration: so that the fight against bad English is not frivolous and is not the exclusive concern of professional writers.â If you needed any proof of the power of books, here it is. Words, and how we use them, matter. Dictionary.com and Merriam-Webster are not just entertaining and informing us. They are taking an essential step towards freeing us: giving us the tools, the words, to free ourselves. This is important work, and in a world where the president of the United States is a Twitter troll, itâs risky work that takes bravery and stamina. These dictionaries are part of a community of people and organizations with the audacity to use words with precision in the face of mendacious power. Where words come from and what they mean matters. The history of a word is the history of a concept, and thats the foundation of our ability to talk about anything. Certain forces would like to redefine key concepts like racism and religious freedom. Dictionaries are on the front lines of that battle. They may not have set out to be political, but like many other respected institutions (e.g. libraries and schools), at the moment the very act of continuing to fulfill their function is political. I started out being amused by Merriam-Websterâs tweets, but as time goes on Iâm increasingly in awe. As a writer and reader, I believe in the power of words to help carry us through this turbulent moment in history. Itâs incredibly comforting to know that those benevolent linguistic deities of my childhood, the reliable old dictionaries, are on side.

Sexual Identity And Gender Expression - 1399 Words
To conceptualise sexual identity and gender expression, Judith Butler (1990) proposes a poststructuralist perspective; that gendered behaviour (masculinity and femininity) is learned, a performative act, and that gender is constructed through a ââ¬Ëheterosexual matrixââ¬â¢. She describes this as [A] hegemonic/epistemic model of gender intelligibility that assumes that for bodies to cohere and make sense there must be a stable sex expressed through a stable gender (masculine expresses discursive male, feminine expresses female) that is oppositionally and hierarchically defined through the compulsory practice of heterosexuality (Butler, 1990; 151). She proposes that one is born a particular sex, which in turn dictates oneââ¬â¢s gender, which in turnâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Reality, from the realist perspective, is seen to have a stratification of existence, which Bhaskar (date) outlines as the ââ¬Ëempiricalââ¬â¢, the ââ¬Ëactualââ¬â¢ and the ââ¬Ërealââ¬â¢. The empirical is the experienced, a sub-set of the actual; the things and events in their concrete historicity, and these are both a sub-set of the real; the structures, the internal relations of the actual parts. Socially, realists distinguish the ââ¬Ëempiricalââ¬â¢ reality of social life from the ââ¬Ërealââ¬â¢ objects whose causal powers effect social change through ââ¬Ëactualââ¬â¢ mechanisms. This ontological depth has bearing when exploring the sex-gender relationship, where there are real anatomical sex differences, and empirically real gender differences. Rather than ââ¬Å"deterministicâ⬠, sex categories are ââ¬Å"causa lâ⬠to result in a particular gender. One born to a particular anatomical sex tends to be a particular gender; the outcome is probable. That is because of the actual mechanisms, the cultural, religious, historical truths, that create a tendency between the ââ¬Ërealââ¬â¢ and the ââ¬Ëempiricalââ¬â¢. This is what Butler somewhat fails to portray: the influences of race, class, and time. ââ¬Å"Heteronormativityâ⬠is the term coined to define the systemic and pervasive belief, structurally, socially and somewhat unconsciously, that heterosexuality is the normal and inevitable sexuality, it ââ¬Ëmakes senseââ¬â¢. It is grounded in determinism; that oneââ¬â¢s anatomical sex must compliment their partnerââ¬â¢s ââ¬Ëoppositeââ¬â¢Show MoreRelatedSexual orientation is the preferred term used when referring to an individuals physical and or1100 Words à |à 5 PagesSexual orientation is the preferred term used when referring to an individuals physical and or emotional attraction to the same and or opposite sex. The Power Of Language Is The Most Dominant Means Free Essays
In addition, ââ¬ËWorthy Sebastianââ¬â¢ is used which has a double meaning, it means that he is worthy enough to become king and be better than Alonso; however, it can also mean that he is valuable to Antonio right now. What this does is makes Sebastian realize that if he is getting epithets such as ââ¬Ëworthyââ¬â¢ when he isnââ¬â¢t a king then imagine all the compliments he would get if he was to become king. Furthermore, Antonio uses imagery when saying ââ¬Å"My strong imagination sees a crown dropping upon thy head. We will write a custom essay sample on The Power Of Language Is The Most Dominant Means or any similar topic only for you Order Now This makes Sebastian feel as is the crown is rightfully his, if the Duke of Milan can see the crown on Sebastian then that is reinforcement for it to happen. This is because if someone who is as high up as Antonio is giving him the go ahead to do the deed and kill the king then he would do is as he thinks itââ¬â¢s the right thing to do. Also, the verb ââ¬Ëdropping suggests that it was sent from above e. G. God and at a time when religion was at the top of the hierarchy it would make Sebastian feel as if God has chosen IM to become king and who is he to defy God. As Sebastian is having doubts as to whether to commit regicide Antonio uses god as a persuasive technique for him to make him kill the king, its as if Antonio wants Sebastian to believe that God has told him to kill the king. Also, Antonio says that he will kill Alonso with ââ¬Ëthis obedient steelââ¬â¢ He doesnââ¬â¢t say sword, but uses the adjective ââ¬Ëobedientââ¬â¢ which makes Sebastian think that the sword will do whatever it is being told which further reassures him that it is the right thing to do and that no harm will happen to him. However, Sebastian believes that Antonio is owing this to benefit Sebastian when in actual fact he is doing it so that he doesnââ¬â¢t have to pay money to the King of Naples, this is where manipulation comes in as Sebastian is so blinded by greed and hope to become powerful that he is oblivious to Notationââ¬â¢s true intentions which is why it is very easy for him to be convinced. The effect this would have is that they would despise both characters as they are thinking of committing regicide which at the time was unheard of. However, some would argue that power and greed is the most dominant means of control because it is due to these factors that Antonio is able to convince Antonio to kill the king. People argue that magic is the most dominant means of control as Prospers has many books which gives him magical powers which means that he can control almost anything including the sea thus causing the Tempest to happen, but the magic is only used through language, only Prospers uses magic which gives the impression that he is the one with the strongest language therefore is the one who has the most control over everyone and everything. Prospers has control over the spirits such as Ariel However this is counter argued by the fact that Prospers as exiled by his brother to the island which would suggest that he isnââ¬â¢t as powerful as he initially seems. Prospers appears to be all powerful with his magical staff at the beginning of the play, but in order to become powerful in Milan where it really matters he must give up his magic. His learning and his books led to his downfall in Milan allowing his brother to take over. This is why magic is not the most dominant means of control in the Tempest. In addition, when Prospers talks to the audience he is controlling them without them releasing, he asks the audience to ââ¬Ërelease me from my bands with the elf of your good handsââ¬â¢ he is still the dominant one and wants the audience to forgive him for all the wrong he has done by applauding him and this will ââ¬Ëset me free. ââ¬Ë Prospers was powerful when he had magic, but he only got what he wanted when he got rid of his magic and used his words to become the rightful duke of Milan and to be forgiven for all the wrong doings he has done. Furthermore, knowledge can also be seen as being the most powerful means Of control. This is because when Prospers was exiled all he had were his books which kept him alive; however, whilst he had his books he was exiled ND usurped by his brother, when Prospers swears that he will ââ¬Ëdrown my bookââ¬â¢ he becomes the Duke of Milan, what this tells the audience is that magic and knowledge are both vital, but without language Prospers wouldnââ¬â¢t have been able to fight his case and make everyone believe that he is the rightful heir to being the Duke of Milan. Also, right at the end Prospers ends the play with a soliloquy which gives him the most power out of all the characters in the play and then over the audience, he begs the audience for forgiveness by ââ¬Ëhelp of your good handsââ¬â¢ which means that when the audience clap they will forgive him, this gives him rower over the audience as he is telling them what to do and they listen to him, he also asks the audience to forgive him, by making himself kick weaker than the audience he is gaining control and being more powerful as they listen to everything that he has got to say. Judaism Report an Example by
Judaism Report Introduction of the Religion If we talk about Judaism, we come to remember the different struggles of the Jewish people that were written in the bible. History would tell us that subsequent to their freedom from Egyptian captivity through the leadership of Moses, the Jewish people roamed around the wilderness for a period of 40 years prior to their entrance to the Promised Land. These people may have encountered different enemies, but they were able to keep a unified state focused in Jerusalem (Wenner, 2001, p. 1). However, this state did not last for so long as invaders came, thereby suppressing the Jewish religion. But, the rebellious tactics led by Judas Maccabaeus was successful leading to the independence of the Jewish state (Wenner, 2001, p. 1). Need essay sample on "Judaism Report" topic? Essay writers propose: Winning Academic Essay Writing Delivered On Time The Diaspora happened wherein Jewish people migrated to the Mediterranean countries as well some areas in Southwest Asia due to another groups of invaders. Until such time that some of the Jewish people survived the Holocaust, they were able to seek refuge in the United States. In the year 1948, independence was granted to the state of Israel (Wenner, 2001, p. 1). As such, the Jewish people continued to exist and enriched their race, religion and culture. The strength of Judaism proved to be evident even up to the present. Judaism is a monotheistic religion, the belief of which expounded that the world was made by a lone, all-powerful divinity, and that everything in this world were moulded to have meaning and purpose as part of a divine order (Wenner, 2001, p. 1). In other words, the Jewish people believed in the existence of one God who is all-knowing. The teachings of Judaism mentioned that the will of God for human behaviour was shown to Moses and the Israelites at Mount Sinai (Wenner, 2001, p. 1). The Ten Commandments played a very important role in Judaism as it was believed to be given as a gift from God to the people. In addition to that, there are five basic beliefs and guiding principles that the religion Judaism had shown and these are 13 Articles of Faith, God, The Messiah and Human Nature. The 13 Articles of Faith serves as a summary of core and basic Jewish beliefs (Jewish Beliefs). For the Jews, the ultimate truth is that there is a single all-knowing God. With respect to their belief of the Messiah, the Jews also take part of the hope that there will be a future hero who will rescue the righteous people, judge the wicked, and bring peace for the world to savour (Jewish Beliefs). They also believed that God formed man having two yods or two impulses of man, the yetzer tov and the yetzer ra (Jewish Beliefs). There are three branches of Judaism which signifies the lifestyle and beliefs of the Jews. These branches of the said religion are Orthodox, Conservative, and Reform (Wenner, 2001, p. 1). The Orthodox branch is composed of the traditionalists who practiced almost all of the traditional food and ritual laws of Judaism (Wenner, 2001, p. 1). The Conservative branch do not support the relevance of a Jewish political state, but place more importance on the historic and religious elements of Judaism (Wenner, 2001, p. 1). In doctrinal setting, the Conservative branch is positioned somewhere between Orthodox and Reform. The Reform branch, on the other hand is the liberal clout of Judaism which is culture and race oriented with poor agreement on doctrinal or spiritual conviction (Wenner, 2001, p. 1). But despite the presence of these branches, Judaism is still considered as one of the most influential religious belief on earth. Name, Location and Review of the Site New York is one of the places wherein the Jews seek refuge with during the time which they experienced myriad trials and persecutions. It is not denied that many of the Jews living in that state still practice Judaism as a religion. In order to present a valuable and informative interview, the said activity was done in the lower east side area of South Bronyx, New York City. Throughout the time of mass Jewish immigration to America the Lower East Side presented warmth, jobs, commerce and political contacts, asset possibilities, schools and settlement houses (Brown, 2008, p. 1. Every one aided the Jewish settler to incorporate and to obtain necessary skills; he could then assist his newly-adopted state to develop and flourish (Brown, 2008, p. 1). Interview Summary The interview of one of the Jewish people who lived in lower east side area in South Bronyx, New York is very successful and informative. The practice of Judaism as a religion proved to be interesting and influential despite its difference with other well-known religions. The gist of the interview falls on the basic statement of faith of Judaism which served as a creed for the Jews. The interviewee is a father of three children and is already 50 years old. He and his wife remained in Bronyx, New York of which their parents first settled when Jewish mass immigration to America during and after the World War II arose. Since their three children are already married and settled in the nearby areas, he managed to proper in the business which he participated and lived within his means. The practice of Judaism was his main concern that was also passed to his children. He was chosen to correspond with the interview since he was known to be a devoted Jewish who practiced Judaism religiously n o matter what. When the interviewer asked the fifty-year old Jewish father about the belief of God, it answered that there is only one Creator that will make all things and serve as the guide of everything. There is one interesting message that the interviewee mentioned which is about the belief that there is a single God and no other. Meaning, the belief of other image of God or idolatry is false. The interviewee is trying to say that paying homage and worshipping to other images of God is not the proper in Judaism. The interviewee was asked on the form of God and to its image and the answer is that God has not any form whatsoever and that it is not a body. The interviewer also said that God is the first and the last when asked about the over-power of the same being. The existence of God is also free from all forms of destruction and it cannot be corrupted by any means. A question on the allowance of praying to other images of God like saints and paying homage to religious leaders, the interviewee mentioned that it is not proper to pray to any other being except God. Prayer is vital to the Jews as it gives them strength to their belief in the religion. It was giving testimony to the statement of faith that it is proper and right to say prayers to God. Prayers are also the building links from a Jewish to God who practices Judaism in this earth. Since the interview is serious, spiritual matters are being emphasized by the interviewee who testified that Judaism is a religion that God is not in unit y into any other beings. The interviewer also asked about the beliefs of the Jews on the messages of prophets. The interviewee mentioned that his faith is perfect that the labours of the prophets in the vineyard are true and it is for the benefit of men and in the service of God. The interviewee even mentioned that Moses is the chief of all prophets both of those who served prior and after him, and that his endeavours are true and valuable for mankind. The Ten Commandments was believed to be the only law given by God to the Jews as a gift and it can never be changed. The interviewee reiterated the same belief of Judaism that the Mosaic Law will be considered as the only laws for the people to follow. It was also emphasized by the interviewee that God is aware of all the thoughts and feelings of every man and that he knows the intent of their hearts. The will of God is inculcated in the hearts of the people and the latter obeys to his commandments. It can be observed that Judaism practice more closeness to God and tried hard to keep the sanctity of the Ten Commandments. The practice of Judaism is also imbued with the need to do good deeds. The interviewee explained that if a person performs righteous acts and remain faithful in following the commandments of God, he could be given reward as a result of those righteous actions. The concept of punishment is also injected by the interviewee explaining that God punishes those people who try to disobey his commandments. Transgressions or sins are being accounted to the person who committed said wrongdoings and must be responsible of the same. In addition, the Jews also believed of the Messiah who will be responsible for facilitating the judgment against the wicked and justice for the righteous. Every Jew promised that the waiting of the Messiah could be long but it could be done. Waiting for the coming of the Messiah is a hope for the interviewee and he is willing to do so. Lastly, the interviewee who practiced Judaism also believed in the teaching that there will be resurrection of those who died during the projected time that pleases God. This belief was promised to the Jews such that they continue living righteously on earth and continuously chose to do good things despite the persecution and trials that they encountered and will encounter in the future. Comparing and Contrasting with another Religion Christianity and Judaism are both monotheistic since these religions only believed in one God. The two religions also happened and developed historically in Jerusalem were the ancient Jews lived and where Jesus Christ also dwells so long time ago. Essentially, there are no official doctrinal writings and requirement of membership in Judaism while Christians membership is tracked from time to time in its official list of members. In Christianity, a person is not considered Christian if it did not embrace all the teachings of the religion, whereas people are considered a Jew despite the fact that it only followed a portion of the statement of beliefs in Judaism. A person is also considered a Jew even if it does not believe in all the Ten Commandments rules. Being righteous is the basic and primary way of observing the religion of Judaism. Compared to Christianity, there are other requirements other than being good and righteous in the society. One notable difference of the two religions is that for Judaism, it is commonly described as a culture or racial identification rather than a religion while Christianity pertains directly to a person who believes in Jesus Christ. Thus, there are many people who are considered Jews but do not practice Judaism as a religion. In other words, while Christians are purely followers of Christ, not all Jews practice Judaism or have interest with the religion. Hence, Christians are stricter of their religion in terms of attendance, membership and adherence to the religion compared to Judaism that does not require its followers to fully practice the faith. There is much more freedom in Judaism compared to Christianity as spiritual beliefs and exercises. The belief of fulfilling Gods commandments is common to both Judaism and Christianity as religions (Judaism vs. Christianity). The basis of both faiths is obedience in God and that being righteous means following commandments. Given that the completion of Gods will is a responsibility of a Jewish or Christian individual, both religions fall into the rule-deontological type (Judaism vs. Christianity). Hence, obeying Gods holy laws is the unique similarity of Christianity and Judaism. In Judaism, God and the Jewish people maintained a spiritual agreement that there should be obedience of the will of God in order to maintain the status of the people as chosen individuals. There is a corresponding reward and punishment that God will give to the people of which he only knows based on the requirement of obedience. Besides, the Ten Commandments are also followed because it has high moral standard aside from the fact that the Jews are loyal to God. It could be noticed that all the rules in the Ten Commandments like avoiding murder and stealing are associated with high moral characteristics. On the other hand, the practice of Christianity has emphasis on the love of God as a reason of obeying him and not on loyalty and moral sense. Love of God is very strong in the Christian such that accepting him as part of ones life and being a member to the religious group is essential to show that love. The manifestation of being a Christian is the fact that God loves the people in return and that he was merciful to his people (Judaism vs. Christianity). There is also a requirement for Christians to love all people and forgive the shortcomings of other people. Moreover, Judaism is not concerned with the listing of its members or the requirement of membership while Christianity always considers the increase of its followers as a successful indoctrination of the people. Thus, Christianity as a religion is more organized compared to Judaism. Conclusion Judaism and Christianity are both famous as religious beliefs. While Christianity can be considered as more organized than Judaism, there is a corresponding reason why it happened. Judaism is more associated with culture and race and the Jews who do not completely follow the tradition of the religion are still considered as part of Judaism. On the other hand, Christianity cannot be associated with race or culture as it was identified purely on the belief of Jesus Christ. In addition, both religions believe in being righteous and obedience to the holy laws of God. Both religions also acknowledge that God will punish the wicked and reward the righteous people. While Jesus Christ was considered as the Saviour of the whole world, the Messiah is also the hero of the Jews as it is a future figure that will judge the wicked and reward the righteous ones. The basis of the faith of the people who practiced Judaism is loyalty to God while for Christians, obedience to God is founded on love and reverence to him. Although mercy is taught in both religions, it is in Christianity that it was emphasized that the concept of forgiving ones enemies is deeply instilled as a teaching. Finally, there may be differences of both religions but the truth that both influences so may people remains intact. References 123 Help Me Website. (2007). Judaism vs. Christianity. On the morning of September 11th, 2001, four Boeing passenger jets were hijacked within an hour by nineteen Arab terrorists armed with box cutters. Pilots among these terrorists took control of the commercial planes and changed course towards targets in New York City and Washington D.C. Two of the planes were deliberately crashed into the nations political and financial centers, causing fires within the towers, which melted the steel support structures, thereby causing the buildings to collapse completely. A third airplane was deliberately crashed into the Pentagon. Passengers on the fourth plane overpowered the hijackers and caused the airplane to crash in Pennsylvania. This was an attack on America planned and directed by Osama Bin Laden as the leader of Al-Qaeda, a previously obscure anti-U.S. international terrorist organization composed of mainly Arabs. This horrible tragedy crippled the airline industry and shook Americaââ¬â¢s sense of security. After this horrible attack A mericans suffered not only physically but psychologically also. Because of the September 11 terrorist attacks, Americans were affected in five key ways, which in turn will affect American society in the way it responds, reacts, and recovers. The first way that Americans were affected by the 9/11 attacks was the role that the media played by showing detailed coverage to American citizens. This caused Posttraumatic Stress Disorder in some Americans that watched the terrible acts unfold. Jennifer Ahern and Sandro Galea, wrote that ââ¬Å"Exposure to graphic television images may exacerbate psychological symptoms in disaster situations. Free Essays on 911 Free Essays on 911 On the morning of September 11th, 2001, four Boeing passenger jets were hijacked within an hour by nineteen Arab terrorists armed with box cutters. About the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)
About the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is a military alliance of countries from Europe and North America promising collective defense. Currently numbering 29 nations, NATO was formed initially to counter the communist East and has searched for a new identity in the post-Cold War world. Background In the aftermath of the Second World War, with ideologically opposed Soviet armies occupying much of Eastern Europe and fears still high over German aggression, the nations of Western Europe searched for a new form of military alliance to protect themselves. In March 1948 the Brussels Pact was signed between France, Britain, Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg, creating a defence alliance called the Western European Union, but there was a feeling that any effective alliance would have to include the US and Canada. In the US there was widespread concern about both the spread of Communism in Europe ââ¬â strong Communist parties had formed in France and Italy - and potential aggression from Soviet armies, leading the US to seek talks about an Atlantic alliance with the west of Europe. The perceived need for a new defensive unit to rival the Eastern bloc was exacerbated by the Berlin Blockade of 1949, leading to an agreement that same year with many nations from Europe. Some nations opposed membership and still do, e.g. Sweden, Ireland. Creation, Structure, and Collective Security NATO was created by the North Atlantic Treaty, also called the Washington Treaty, which was signed on April 5th 1949. There were twelve signatories, including the United States, Canada and Britain (full list below). The head of NATOs military operations is the Supreme Allied Commander Europe, a position always held by an American so their troops donââ¬â¢t come under foreign command, answering to the North Atlantic Council of ambassadors from member nations, which is led by the Secretary General of NATO, who is always European. The centrepiece of the NATO treaty is Article 5, promising collective security: an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all; and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defense recognized by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area. The German Question The NATO treaty also allowed for the allianceââ¬â¢s expansion among European nations, and one of the earliest debates among NATO members was the German question: should West Germany (the East was under rival Soviet control) be re-armed and allowed to join NATO. There was opposition, invoking the recent German aggression which caused World War Two, but in May 1955 Germany was allowed to join, a move which caused upset in Russia and led to the formation of the rival Warsaw Pact alliance of Eastern communist nations. NATO and the Cold War NATO had, in many ways, been formed to secure West Europe against the threat of Soviet Russia, and the Cold War of 1945 to 1991 saw an often tense military standoff between NATO on one side and the Warsaw Pact nations on the other. However, there was never a direct military engagement, thanks in part to the threat of nuclear war; as part of NATO agreements nuclear weapons were stationed in Europe. There were tensions within NATO itself, and in 1966 France withdrew from the military command established in 1949. Nevertheless, there was never a Russian incursion into the western democracies, in large part due to the NATO alliance. Europe was very familiar with an aggressor taking one country after another thanks for the late 1930s and did not let it happen again. NATO After the Cold War The end of the Cold War in 1991 led to three major developments: the expansion of NATO to include new nations from the former Eastern bloc (full list below), the re-imagining of NATO as a ââ¬Ëco-operative securityââ¬â¢ alliance able to deal with European conflicts not involving member nations and the first use of NATO forces in combat. This first occurred during the Wars of the Former Yugoslavia, when NATO used air-strikes first against Bosnian-Serb positions in 1995, and again in 1999 against Serbia, plus the creation of a 60,000 peace keeping force in the region. NATO also created the Partnership for Peace initiative in 1994, aimed at engaging and building trust with ex-Warsaw Pact nations in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, and later the nations from the Former Yugoslavia. Other 30 countries have so far joined, and ten have become full members of NATO. NATO and the War on Terror: The conflict in the former Yugoslavia had not involved a NATO member state, and the famous clause 5 was first ââ¬â and unanimously - invoked in 2001 after terrorist attacks on the United States, leading to NATO forces running peace-keeping operations in Afghanistan. NATO has also created the Allied Rapid Reaction Force (ARRF) for faster responses. However, NATO has come under pressure in recent years from people arguing it should be scaled down, or left to Europe, despite the increase in Russian aggression in the same period. NATO might still be searching for a role, but it played a huge role in maintaining the status quo in the Cold War, and has potential in a world where Cold War aftershocks keep happening.à Member States 1949 Founder Members: Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France (withdrew from military structure 1966), Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, United Kingdom, United States1952: Greece (withdrew from military command 1974 ââ¬â 80), Turkey1955: West Germany (With East Germany as reunified Germany from 1990)1982: Spain1999: Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland2004: Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia2009: Albania, Croatia2017: Montenegro

Personal Financial Management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Personal Financial Management - Essay Example Retirement plan is nothing but a plan which replaces our employment income after we retire. In terms of tax, retirement plan is defined by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) code in US. Dream of leading a secured and comfortable retired life can come true only with proper retirement planning. A plan to transfer ones estate after death is known as estate planning. Estate includes all the personal properties like cash, land, houses, jewelry, investment accounts, etc. Estate planning is done to ensure and fulfill certain objectives like transferring most of the estate to ones beneficiaries, least payment of taxes for the estate, etc. Estate planning is a continuous process and should start immediately when a person has a measurable base of assets (Gitman, Joehnk & Billingsley, 2010, p.18). Estate plans should be in accordance with ones goals and objectives in life. Loved ones can face undue financial burden due to inadequate estate planning. Four Aspects of Retirement Planning Retiremen t planning can be thought of as a framework which includes four main aspects (Prudential Financial, n.d). They are: i. Social Security: Social Security is an insurance program that provides several benefits to individuals like, retirement benefits, disability benefits, etc. ii. Employment based plans: These are retirement plans provided by employers to the employees. It includes defined contribution and benefit pension plans. iii. Personal Savings: The returns on investments made by individuals that can add up to the Social Security Benefits or Employment based plans. It includes options like IRAs, Bank Deposits, Mutual Funds, Annuities, etc. iv. Retirement Choices: For retirement security, lifestyle and financial choices play a significant role. Lifestyle choices include choice of retirement age, place of retirement, etc. Financial choices include allocation of assets in retirement, conversion of assets to income and then protecting that income. The Retirement Planning Process and Personal Retirement Plan The retirement planning process constitutes several steps. These steps are discussed one by one and how it relates with my personal retirement planning is also discussed below. The first step in a retirement planning process includes setting own personal goals and objectives in life. Next these objectives have to be arranged in descending order of priority. Also these objectives should have the time horizon included in it. These objectives can be revised and changed in due course of time. Now this step can be related to my case in the following way: My personal objectives in life arranged in decreasing order of priority with time horizon mentioned along with it are: 1. Maintain the standard of living on retirement at the age of 50 after 20 years. 2. Buying an expensive motor car within 2 years. 3. Buying a home within 5 years. 4. To make a mortgage investment within 10 years. 5. Paying off all the mortgage bonds within 20 years. The second step is about calc ulating and determining the money required for fulfilling each of the objectives. All the household incomes and expenditures are to be calculated and the difference is also to be calculated. Present value of money should be considered while doing the calculations and the annual inflation rate should also be taken into account. This can be applied in my personal retir

Government 1 Dissertation Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1
Government 1 - Dissertation Example It should be noted that Georgia and the Carolinas were two regions that supported slavery and their decision to stay out of the union would have been due to their refusal to abolish slavery at some point in the history of America. Thus, it would have been written in the history of America that Georgia and the Carolinas stayed out of the union as they refused to abolish slavery in their own territories. America would have tried to use force to bring these territories back to them and these would have also been written in the history of America. If Georgia and Carolina had stayed out of the union, it would have been that slavery was what divided America. Thus, slavery would have been the political divisive factor that made Georgia and the Carolinas to stay out of the union. The United States of America would not in any way have succeeded without a written constitution. If there is anything that is keeping the United States of America together, it is in the fact that they have a written constitution (Taylor, 2001). If there was no written constitution in the United States, there would not be law and order in the country. The fact that the leaders and other citizens of the country know that they must not do things that are not contrary to what was written in the constitution plays a great part in the survival of the country.

Making Money the Easy Way :: essays research papers
Slavery has been a very sensitive, touchy subject since, and even before, its abolition in 1865. There is no doubt whatsoever that its one, if not the, worst things to ever take place in the United States. However, this happened a long, long time ago in a different generation. The ancestors of those who were slaves have every right to be angry about what happened, but to try and claim money for it is absurd. Granted it was wrong, it was the way of life in those times. Wealthy white men owned slaves in those days. Paying back these slaves ancestors would not change anything. Whatââ¬â¢s done is done. Also there are many other needs in this country that this money could help greatly. Doing this would stir up more tension than there already is now. The fact that the country is paying back American Indians and Japanese-Americans is hard to comprehend. These people are being greedy only using their ancestors as an excuse to get their hands on some quick cash. à à à à à The world is an ever changing place with new customs, beliefs, and ideas being thought up every day. Times change, and people change. In the 1700ââ¬â¢s and the 1800ââ¬â¢s it was custom for the rich, white plantation owners to have slaves. As we look back now it is obvious to us that it was wrong but that is the way is was then. There was no law banning it. Think about alcohol. It is bad and causes bad things to happen sometimes, but its legal. So in 100 years will the government give money to anybody who was harmed due to alcohol? The same thing goes for cigarettes. One day down the road people will realize what alcohol and cigarettes do and they may ban them. The world evolves everyday and everyone uses the lessons they learned from past generations in order to fit in well with society and live life to the fullest. à à à à à What does giving slaves ancestors money solve? Nothing. Slavery took place hundreds of years ago and paying back families does not make anything right. There is nothing that can be done to make what happened better. Paying reparations will not free the slaves. Anyone who is trying to collect reparations is a selfish fool who cares nothing about making things right, they just want money. Paying them back still would not make them feel better about slavery.

The beach, the place I come to when I finish the day
The beach, the place I come to when I finish the dayâ⬠¦. It's the perfect place to relax after the pressure of working at a Caribbean bar. Everyday I come to the beach and sit around, it allows me to cool off from work and think about how bad or good my day has been. The beach is always empty at this time and is perfectly located, right outside my house. Stretching a mile in either direction there is plenty of room for people to go who want to be alone, who want time to gather their thoughts and work out what has actually happened to day nd what hasn't. It's also the time when you usually realise you forgot to do something, that's basically why I come here. As I look off down the beach I see the island as night approaches, in the distance the lights of hotels come on, the occasional car lights, the boats in the harbour turn their lights on and the lone cruise ship coming in lit up like a Christmas tree. The sunsets in the distance falling slowly behind the vast spread of water and already high in the sky the moon begins it's over watch. The beach, now cast in a reddish old light begins to cool off from the hot day and the sea, sparkling in the fading light rolls quietly in. The palm trees behind, mostly in shadows sway in the gentle breeze. The occasional bird fly's in to roost and the night creatures come out. On the beach a small crab dashes from hole to hole in search of food and like an opaque blob a jellyfish patiently waits for the sea to return. By now the beach is quiet, only the relaxing sounds remain, the sea as it sloshes up the beach the breeze as it gently blows through the alms, the birds calling their night calls and the nocturnal animals announcing that they are awake. I feel much more relaxed and cooled off now, it like someone has lifted all the weight of the days work off my shoulders allowing me to slouch here and do nothing. I start to play with the sand as a sit and stare out to see, I feel the grains running though my fingers like dry water, the coolness of the sand also helps to relax me. Also the cool breeze coming in from the sea seems to refresh me from the typical Caribbean heat. As I look around and consider going in another crag sidesteps in front of me, its legs sounding like small pebbles as the hit the sand, I smile as it randomly changes direction as though it were lost on to him is a vast desert like beach. Sitting here, alone makes me feel like nothing matters, that however bad things can get there is peace you just need to know where to find it and I have, here. Sighing I get up and plod back into my house, thinking of the horror awaiting me at the bar tomorrow.

Hammoudââ¬â¢s study of pregnant smokers found the odds ratio for intrauterine growth restriction was 2.4 (95% CI, 2.34-2.53), and the odds ratio for preterm delivery was 1.2 (95% CI, 1.13-1.28). The more cigarettes the women smoked per day, the higher the reductions in birth weight; âËâ111 g, âËâ175 g, and âËâ236 g when women smoked 1 to 5, 6 to 10, and 10 cigarettesâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦A recent study from the United Kingdom found that women who use illicit drugs during pregnancy were significantly more likely to deliver preterm (aOR: 1.6, 95% CI, 1.3ââ¬â2.1) and/or have a low birth weight infant (aOR:1.9, 95%CI, 1.4ââ¬â2.6) (Black, Bhattacharya, Fairley, Campbell, Shetty, 2013). Further studies of the effects of independent illicit drugs on pregnancy also found that pregnant women who sm oked marijuana were more likely to have a LBW infant (RR:2.6; 95% CI, 1.1-6.2) and/or a SGA infant (RR, 2.3; 95% CI, 1.3-4.1) compared to nonusers (Hatch Bracken, 1986). A systematic review and meta-analysis of cocaine use in pregnancy also found it to be significantly associated with LBW (OR: 3.66; 95% CI, 2.90-4.63) and SGA (OR:3.23; 95% CI, 2.43-4.30) (Gouin, Murphy, Shah, Knowledge Synthesis group on Determinants of Low Birth Weight and Preterm Births, 2011). -Stress and Anxiety: Research into the role that stress or anxiety may play in instigating preterm birth is rather recent. In 2006, ACOG advocated for the assessing of psychosocial risk factors during perinatal screenings of all pregnant women regardless of social status, education, race or ethnicity (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Committee on Health Care for Undeserved Women, 2006) Latendresse touched upon the role of stress and anxiety in the Journal of Midwifery and Womenââ¬â¢s Health in 2009 while examining six previous studies (Latendresse, 2009). Is Waste Disposal Necessary For Public Health - 962 Words
Many villages and homes were destroyed completely in this event. Moreover, the houses which were located in the radiological evacuation zone can not be used anymore (Dhitinut Ratnapradipa PhD, Ruffing Victor White MS, 2012). Local government set emergency point to settle affected people. Additionally, waste disposal is an important issue during this event. The majority of waste carried harmful bacteria with mud and dirt, and polluted with PCBs or asbestos (Makinen, 2011). Disposal may also contribute to the reproduction of insects and other pests, posting a threat to residentsââ¬â¢ health. Another problem is a large amount of waste, more than 80 million tons, exceeded the capacity of disposal landfills. Thus, the government had to find somewhere else to deal with this concern, which absolutely delay the transport of waste. In addition, controlling disease vector in emergency shelters posted a threat to public health. The storage of food and water and the delay of waste could cont ribute to the reproduction of insects and pests, which may become vectors of communicable diseases (Dhitinut Ratnapradipa PhD, Ruffing Victor White MS, 2012). Moreover, the nuclear accident in the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant can be seen as a radiation disaster. Web Traffic And The Individual s Footprint Online
Understanding and utilizing big data, such as the kind gathered en masse from social media and internet browsing searches can be a useful tool to combat terrorism domestically and abroad. It allows for connecting the dots of an individualââ¬â¢s online footprint to potentially identify terrorists before they strike. However, privacy advocates and private citizens are concerned that the growing scope of data collection and analytics by the government could lead to abuse, profiling, criminalization of behavior, or restrictions of freedoms. While these are valid concerns, they are unfounded and must be balanced against the very real need to combat terrorism. Web traffic and the individualââ¬â¢s footprint online are inarguably public knowledge, if one simply knows how to look. Much like a person can be observed leaving their home and visiting a public establishment, so too can their online traffic be observed without invasive measures that one might consider an unreasonable breach o f any private thought or space. In the case of the San Bernardino shooting late last year, the L.A. the importance of Organizational Culture in management Free Essays
Introduction Organizational culture, the most influential of the past several decades has been the largest and concepts of management buzzwords. Hofstede (1997) report that the term as a synonym for organizational culture, organizational climate appeared during the 1960s. ââ¬Å"Corporate cultureâ⬠after the publication of several popular press in the 1980s, general management buzzword (Deal and Kennedy, 1982 Davis, 1984) has become. We will write a custom essay sample on the importance of Organizational Culture in management or any similar topic only for you Order Now Interrelated academic and popular management literature the culture and its impact is reflected in the subjects, there is widespread belief that the organizational culture, organizational effectiveness near (Denison and Mishra, 1995; Kilmann Saxton, and Serpa, 1985; Weiss, 1996) is related. The culture of organizational problems often cause a comfortably vague and is all inclusive. Some examples of the proposed impact of organizational culture remains strong interest in why the concept can underscore. Culture, a source of competitive advantage (Ott, 1989; Peters and Waterman, 1982, Wilkins and amp; Barney, 1986 Ouchi, 1983) as has been explored, although others have limited empirical evidence (Denison and Mishra, 1995 strongly support, Fey and Denison, 2003). Attention post-merger/acquisition integration (Olie, 1990 and 1994; Vaara, 1999; Veiga, Lubatkin, Calori and 2000 very,; Nahavandi and Malekzadeh, 1988 very Calori and Lubatkin, 1993) has been in the organizational culture . Also, organizational culture, success or failure of large-scale efforts to change (Beer and Nohria, 2000 has emerged as a major factor, Brill and Worth, 1997; Burke, 1994; Jick and Peiperl, 2003; Pascale Millemann and Gioja, 1997). In a review of recent diversity literature Jackson, Joshi and Erhardt (2003) report results of studies exploring effects of organizational culture on diversity dynamics. Ely and Thomas (2001 ) contend that diversity is more likely to lead to positive outcomes if organizational culture stresses integration and learning. Cox and Tung (1997) argue that the degree of structure and informal integration in an organization will influence outcomes of diversity. Polzer, Milton and Swann (2002) suggest organizational cultures may influence the process of identity negotiation and that teams are more likely to benefit from diversity when team membersââ¬â¢ identities are verified by reflected appraisals of other team members. Definitions of organizational culture reflects the dichotomy in the conceptualization, although some researchers have developed integration frameworks (eg Martin, 1992; Ott, 1989). On the one hand, culture is seen in practices and behaviors ââ¬â ââ¬Å"how things are done hereâ⬠(Drennan, 1992, p. 1). Other conceptualize culture in practices that support. In 1992 Hunt say about culture as the value, beliefs and attitudes which shows how the company perceive and Interpretation of events. The same applies to Davis (1984), involves the culture of beliefs and values that give meaning and organization provide members with rules of behavior. Schein (1985) argues that organizational culture ââ¬Å"should be reserved for the deeper level of basic assumptions and beliefs that are shared by members of an organization, that operate unconsciously and define in a basicâ⬠taken for acquired ââ¬Å"fashion an organization seen by himself and his environmentâ⬠(p. 6). Others, such as Hampden-Turner (1990) see culture as a concept fill levels and function at the subconscious level visible and concrete. Hofstede (1997) defines organizational culture as ââ¬Å"the collective programming of the mind which distinguishes the members of an organization from anotherâ⬠(p. 180), but he also argues that ââ¬Å"the common perception of daily practices must be considered the core of an organization of culture ââ¬Å"(p. 182-83).Multicultural Organizations: Opportunities and Challenges Much has been written about problems and benefits of diversity in cross-cultural management and diversity literature (e.g. Adler, 2002; Cox Blake, 1991;Elron, 1997; Ely Thomas, 2001; Gentile, 1996; Robinson Deschant, 1997; Watson, Johnson Merritt, 1998). During the past decade, however, there has been an interesting shift in the rhetoric of diversity. Thomas and Ely (1996) cite the increasing emphasis on diversity as a spur for greater organizational effectiveness. Robinson and Deschant (1997) argue that diversity makes good business sense. Popular diversity discourse aside, however, diversity does not automatically lead to greater organizational effectiveness. Although there is general acknowledgement that cultural diversity offers numerous potential benefits to an organization, those benefits may not be realized unless they are purposefully pursued. Moreover, the challenges presented by diversity may negatively impact organizational performance unless properly managed. What are the benefits and challenges of a multicultural organizationWhen employees representing nine nationalities, who work in eight multicultural organizations in Luxembourg answered those questions they discussed advantages and disadvantages for both organizations and individuals (Trefry, 2001). Without exception those interviewed saw multicultural diversity as an important asset for organizations. They reported organizational advantages such as: a) the possibility of matching employees with diverse customers/clients; b) ability to apply knowledge of different cultures to business projects; c) better decision-making and problem-solving after considering diverse perspectives; and d) more creativity and innovation in products, services and organizational processes. In addition, however, to echoing benefits described in the diversity literature, Luxembourg respondents emphasized personal benefits such as: a) greater personal ability to cope with the unexpected; b) broadening of their perspectives on any given issue; c) greater tolerance and acceptance of othersââ¬â¢ differences; d) greater flexibility in their own personal behavior, communication and interaction styles; and e) enhanced self-insight. Interestingly enough, it is understanding the logic of personal benefits cited and applying it at an organizational level that offers insight on how organizations can achieve maximum value from a culturally diverse workforce. Implications for Multicultural Organizations Although multicultural organizations are increasingly the norm, most are just beginning to strategically deal with their cultural diversity. Thus we come back to the primary premise of our exploration: organizational culture has the potential for even greater impact in multicultural organizations because it can intensify both the benefits and the challenges of cultural diversity, and thus indirectly, affect potential competitive advantage. Yet how is it that multicultural organizations manage the challenges and achieve the maximum benefit from their cultural diversityThe answer lies in the nature of the organizational culture as well as a strategic approach to harnessing diversity for benefit of the organization. It is the strategic utilization of cultural differences that creates real competitive advantage for the organization (Schneider Barsoux, 2003). A metaphor of organizational culture as a double-edged sword that cuts in numerous directions seems appropriate. Organizational culture can exacerbate the challenges of diversity. It can also intensify potential benefits. At the practices level organizational culture can facilitate integration; at the level of business assumptions and shared frames of reference guiding how the work of the organization is accomplished there is potential danger that a strong culture can downplay or even negate the advantages of cultural diversity. Too much uniformity in mental models about ways work is approached may encourage employees to accept existing paradigms for the organizationââ¬â¢s work without ever questioning them. How can organizations create a culture that values differences and purposefully facilitates ââ¬Å"cultural synergy,â⬠as it has been labeled by Adler (2002)The question leads us to a paradox which needs to be explored at both practices and underlying values, beliefs and assumptions levels of culture. At the practices level organizational norms are operationalized by processes, procedures and policies. Yet acceptance of the value of multiple perspectives and approaches means there is both individual and organizational flexibility to sometimes act outside of delineated policies, processes and procedures and that diverse approaches can co-exist and influence each other. Pascale (1990) describes this paradox as a vector of contention between mandatory and discretionary systems and charges managers with responsibility for ââ¬Å"orchestrating the tension and harnessing contending oppositesâ⬠(p. 34). Managing this tension between opposites, however, is a significant challenge. The traditional western managerial mindset has stressed consistency of policies and procedures in order to reduce ambiguity and promote internal integration (Senge, 1990). Indeed the common assumption has been that effective organizations have strong, highly consistent and well integrated cultures (Saffold, 1988). Yet there has also been increasing recognition of an organizational irony: well-integrated organizations are often the least responsive to changing conditions (Kanter, Stein Jick, 1992). Success in todayââ¬â¢s continually changing environments requires that people in organizations think in different ways, learn, and adapt to evolving circumstances. It is such requirements that underscore the need to purposefully explore organizational culture at the underlying beliefs, values and assumptions level. Thinking in different ways, learning and appropriate adaptation can only happen if there is continual questioning of organizational frames of reference ââ¬â those constellations of beliefs, values and assumptions that determine how the organization approaches its business. Here the insight regarding personal benefits of working in a multicultural environment seems applicable. Multicultural team members in Trefryââ¬â¢s study (2001) attributed their broadened perspectives, increased personal tolerance, flexibility and adaptability to their exposure to different ways of thinking and their consequent reexamination of their own perspectives. Thus as Gentile (1996) so eloquently asserts, ââ¬Å"it is precisely through our interactions and confrontations with difference-of perspective, of prior experience, of style, of identity- that we come to recognize the limits of our own perspectives, experiences, and stylesâ⬠(p. 1). The same logic can apply at both individual and organizational levels. Exposure to different values, beliefs, assumptions and perspectives can lead to broadening our frames of reference, whether at a personal level or an organizational level. Indeed Trefry Vaillant (2002) suggest that individuals and organizations actually ââ¬Å"learnâ⬠from expanding the frames of reference through which they view and interpret what they see and experience ââ¬â thus increasing their awareness of alternative ways to act. Developing a greater range of options can promote organizational flexibility, enabling adaptation to the needs of specific contexts. Insight facilitated by expanded frames of reference can be used to generate new approaches to business issues and practices. Conclusion Thus challenging existing organizational assumptions and broadening frames of reference offers a rich potential for increased effectiveness and competitive advantage. The organizational ââ¬Å"learningâ⬠must go beyond exploration of differences, however. The goal is to integrate different approaches and frames of reference into new, more sophisticated approaches and organizational frames of reference. Adler (2002) argues that ââ¬Å"culturally synergistic organizations reflect the best aspects of all membersââ¬â¢ cultures in their strategy, structure, and process without violating the norms of any single cultureâ⬠(p. 108). They utilize the naturally divergent thinking of people with different cultural backgrounds to solve problems, make decisions, and develop new approaches to products, services, and organizational processes How to cite the importance of Organizational Culture in management, Essay examples

Questions: 1.Different antenna, such as yagi, horn, and celluar antennas, etc. has different merits. Research these technologies in details and pay specific attention to how they are used as well their strengths and weakness. Provide an opinion regarding which antenna types will become the dominant players in the future of medium- and long-distance wireless links. 2.Compare and contrast the multiplexing techniques CDMA and FDMA in the area of wireless networking? 3.A local engineering group ask you to present your finding of the most recent advanced wireless technologies. Research these technologies in details and pay specific attention to how they are used as well their strengths and weakness. Provide an opinion regarding which antenna types will become the dominant players in the future. Answers: 1.Different types of antennas In case of television and broadcasting Yagi-uda antenna is used most commonly. The performance index of this type of antenna is better (Aouani et al., 2014). This type of antenna is mostly used for the better directivity and high gain and the frequency range of the antenna is between 30MHz to 3GHZ and relies in between the UHF and the VHF frequency bands. Strengths The directivity is high. Power consumption is low. The maintenance and handling cost is low and also easy. The frequency range is large that can be covered by the Antenna The bandwidth is of lower value and the gain is high. Weakness Atmospheric changes can affect this kind of antenna This kind of antenna is also affected by the noise. Applications The Yagi antenna is particularly useful in case of the applications where an RF antenna design is required to create required gain and directivity (Han et al., 2015). It is also useful in case of optimum transmission and reception conditions can be obtained. Horn Antennas A horn antenna functions on the basis of microwave frequencies and for this reason it is called Microwave antenna also (Inui et al., 2015). There are many kinds of antennas which are available in the market and those are conical horn, pyramid horn antenna and the corrugated horn antenna. Strengths It has a narrow range of beam width. Many small minor lobes are created. It has a good impedance matching Directivity is an important factor and it has a greater value Weakness The value of the flare angle and the length of the flare should be good enough The directivity should be high but the design of the flare angle is not advantageous for the antenna Applications Horn antennas are used as short distance radars. It is also used in various cameras which are used in speed enforcement. Cellular antenna Those antennas which are used in the mobile phones or cell phones are called cellular antenna (Yin et al., 2013). The main thing about the cellular antenna is that it can be used as the conjunction between the data signal and the mobile phone. Strengths The cellular antennas are used for the communication along very long distances like 45 miles and more. It has a huge capacity to transfer a lot of data per second. It is very suitable for the transfer of data in long distances. Weakness There is always a connection problem in case of using the cellular antennas. The damage of this kind of antennas can damage the whole communication system. Increased number of the antennas in each base station. Applications Cellular antennas are used in mobile phones. It is also used for long distance communication. These antennas are used in the cellular base stations. Selection of antenna type for medium and long distance Cellular antennas are most suitable for long distance communication. This type of antenna is used in case communication in more than 65 miles distance. 2.Comparison and contrast of FDMA and CDMA CDMA refers to code division multiple accesses and it is a method that has the access of different channels and it is a blend of several radio communications (Sarkar, Srivastava Saurav, 2014). It is created by spreading the codes using orthogonal codes. It is a suitable example of multiple accesses. FDMA refers to Frequency Division Multiple Access and it is a method that utilises the channel for accessing and it also acts as a channelization protocol (Yang Marzetta, 2013). It provides the users several bands of frequency and is mainly used in satellite communication. CDMA FDMA Every user uses the same frequency band and the transmission is simultaneous in nature. It is inactive in case when the channel is not active. It uses the spectrum by distributing various orthogonal codes. In FDMA the frequency band is distributed in several disjoint subbands. All terminals can act simultaneously. Every terminal has individual frequency levels. It uses continuous transmission scheme. It also uses continuous transmission scheme. It has no absolute limits of cell capacity. It has limited cell capacity 3.Most recent advanced wireless technologies RFID is one of the latest wireless technologies which is used to identify the position of several objects and to keep record of those objects. RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification Detector. RFID functions on the basis of Radio frequency signals. It consists of different parts like tags and receiver (Lo Lee, 2013). RFID tags are attached to several objects and it connects with the receiver to transfer several signals regarding the position and information about the object. The receiver receives the signal and helps to keep track of those objects. Strength RFID tags can be used to keep track of objects as well as pet animals. RFID system is more efficient in case of retailing business and stores to keep track of the objects very easily and it is better than the barcode scanner. RFID can be used in electronic identification of vehicles and automatic toll collection system. Weakness RFID is used in small range like 100 meters only. In case of long range RFID the cost is very high. Best type of antenna for use in future In future the long range communication will be the main factor to determine the best option among the antennas (Ding et al., 2015). From that point of view the Cellular antennas can be the most useful antennas in future. References Aouani, H., Rahmani, M., Navarro-Ca, M., Maier, S. A. (2014). Reaction Paper Ten Commandments free essay sample
Movie Paper: I am Sam We live in a society where media portrays a great deal of information on a daily basis. Movies, TV shows, videos, internet etc. all accommodate with portraying the information all around the world. The advantage of media is that it can educate viewers with all the different kind of information but it can also portray false delusions especially when dealing with people with some kind of disability. For this movie paper, I chose the movie I am Sam. Its a wonderful film about a mentally hallenged man who has the power to teach others that love is really all you need. The Diagnosis Many diagnoses are being portrayed in this film such as, mental retardation and autism. Sam Dawson the protagonist of the movie is man who has a mental disability who has a mind of a 7 year old. He is a single father to his daughter Lucy; the mother was homeless and abandoned Sam and Lucy right after she was born. However, when Lucy turned 7 her capacity of knowledge was much greater than her fathers and she was taken away by child services and is put to a foster home. This ended up being a custody battle in the court, Sam fought hard to get custody for his own daughter. Due to the fact that he works at star bucks, he couldnt afford a lawyer, however he still managed to find an attorney who will represent him pro bono (free of charge). There are many dysfunctions shown throughout the movie. As Sams daughter Lucy was getting older, she was assigned harder books to read with words that Sam couldnt read. MOVIE PAPER: I AM SAM Therefore, Lucy pretended as if she cant read those words as well because she doesnt want to be smarter than her dad. She knew that he was different, and not like other dads. Sam and Lucy have a tradition to go to HOP Wednesday nights, when they decide to change it up a bit and go to a different place; Sam causes a disturbance because he cannot get the French pancakes that he is used to having at HOP, something a child would do. During trial he couldnt be serious and really showed that his intellectual capacity is of a 7 year old. He also suffered from autism and his speech was very limited and he had absolutely no abstract thinking. Sadock and Sadock states that the diagnosis for autism are deficits in language development and difficulty using language to communicate (Sadock Sadock, 2010). I believe that the movie described the disorder very accurately, it was clear for the viewers to see that Sam suffered from a developmental disability. The way he talked, laughed, and acted was all evidence to his disability. The way he communicated with his daughter as if they were two kids. All his friends around him were also suffering from a mental disability as well. There was a scene in the movie when Lucy ran away from child services to her father and told him that they let her go to the park with him, only an individual with a disorder can actually believe that. The factual information does match the fiction in the film very closely. Sam had

Lady Lovelace essays
Lady Lovelace essays Ada Byron, Lady Lovelace, was a creative and influential mathematician. Born on December 10, 1815 to the romantic poet, Lord Byron, she entered a life of prestige and wealth. An active child, she enjoyed gymnastics, dancing, and horseback riding. But above all of that, she loved the arts. Going to the theater was one of her favorite pastimes, as well as playing the piano, violin, and harp. Unfortunately for her, her parents didnt get along, and ended up separating when Ada was only 1 month old. Adas mother gained custody, and therefore she never had a chance to meet her father before he died when she was eight years old. At seventeen, Ada met Mary Sommerville (a very influential mathematician) and they became fast friends. Ada explained her love of math, and Mary soon became a role model, as well as a tutor. Through Marys son, Woronzow Grieg, she met and fell in love with William King. They married soon after. William King became a member of the House of Lords, and took the name, Earl of Lovelace. Over time, they had 3 children, although Ada secretly found them a distraction, and couldnt really care less about them. She confessed this to her mother and husband, and told them she wanted to pursue mathematics further. They supported her in her decision, and tried to do whatever was possible to help her out. Lovelace took care of their country estates, while Lady Byron took the kids. Ada went to London to pursue her studies, and found a math tutor from the University of London to help her with trigonometry, calculus, arithmetic, and algebra. One evening at a dinner party at Mary Sommervilles house, Ada heard Charles Babbages ideas for the Analytical Engine. She was touched by how unique his ideas were, even though hardly anybody else was. An Italian, Menabrea, wrote a summery of what Babbage described about his machine, and Ada translated this. When Babbage read what sh ...
